The Republicans have no such opportunity to run from their Bush/Cheney legacy, because they passionately promoted it and backed it every step of the way. Bush mouthed the exact same ideological cannards as Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, and O'Reilly do to this day. Government largesse and intrusion are fine with them--as long as it serves their function of transferring wealth from working people to the superrich.
